The breakup of Czechoslovakia into two separate nations is not progressing as smoothly as it originally seemed it would. The prime ministers of Slovakia and the Czech Lands insist the breakup will take place as scheduled on Jan 1, 1993, but factions in both places are calling for a renewed alliance.

Article Abstract:
The resignation of Czechoslovakian Pres Havel now troubles the leaders of Slovakia's independence movement, who previously acted to prevent Havel's re-election. Ironically, Czech parliamentary leaders are pleased with the resignation, because they now hope to speed the division of the country.
