Blueprint for urban villages
Article Abstract:
The Urban Villages Group (UVG) proposes the creation of mixed-use urban developments. The Group has produced a report 'Urban Villages - a Concept for Creating Mixed-Use Urban Developments on a Sustainable Scale.' The concept is similar to the 'urban quarter' of continental Europe, which is a mixed-use neighbourhood in a wider urban area. UVG suggests an urban village would be on an inner city site, no bigger than 100 acres, and have a population of 3-5,000 with the same number of jobs as residents. Seven members of UVG have set up the Urban Villages Company and aim to develop an urban village.
