Boeing downs mainland's jetliner sector
Article Abstract:
Market forecast China will not be able to play its key role in aerospace after the Aviation Industries of China failed to finalise two aircraft projects with its foreign partners. Boeing cancelled its agreement to assemble 20 MD-90 in Shanghai in August, while Airbus recently dropped its 100-seat aircraft project, saying low return and costly investment. Despite China is expected to spend US$120 bn on aircraft purchase in the next 20 years, the Chinese company will not likely benefit from this. To compensate the loss of two projects, Boeing and Airbus plan to offer China a role in a wing project and an A3XX-600-seat aircraft project respectively. *
