Bolivia goes to war against coca
Article Abstract:
Bolivia is seeking to eradicate coca growing, and there have been demonstrations by coca growers in the capital, La Paz. There is only one key area where coca is grown for export, and that is the Chapare region across the Andes. Critics argue that this is also a region where poverty is a problem. The campaign could lead to an increase in migration from Chapare to urban areas, and coca production could be transferred to more remote areas where it is less easy to control.
