In spite of a net loss of 44.6 million pounds in the second quarter, Bookham Technology PLC has decided to expand its plants in the U.K. and begin production at a new U.S. plant in Columbia, Maryland. The company is going against the trend among European technology-hardware companies that are scaling back manufacturing production.

Cost cuts boost BT's profit by 40%
