Bounds for the position of the smallest job in completion time variance minimization
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to formulate bounds that will limit the smallest job in an optimal V-shaped sequence on a single machine. The bounds could minimize the variance of job completion times effectively if the job processing times are homogeneous. The bounds also helped in developing a new heuristic method that was comparatively more efficient than older heuristic methods. The new heuristic method was necessary since the problem is NP-hard.
