Bridgestone appears poised to exceed earnings target
Article Abstract:
Financial prospects for Bridgestone Corp appear promising for the fiscal year 1998, as the leading Japanese tire manufacturer is likely to surpass its projected earnings. Buoyed by the recent surge of the Japanese yen and the low price of raw materials in Europe and North America, Bridgestone is looking forward to acquire 20% of the world's markets share. US-based Bridgestone units, on the other hand, have expanded their export capacity in an effort to exploit the benefits of strong demand in the region.

Telecoms still a healthy, long-term bet
Article Abstract:
Indonesia's telecommunications sector remains an attractive choice for foreign investors despite the effects of the Southeast Asian currency crisis. Indonesia's telecommunications infrastructure is forecast to need an additional $10 billion in investments for five years beginning 1999, according to government projections. While the currency debacle may slow the flow of investments for the meantime, the long-term outlook for the sector remains bright.
