Good time for training

Construction equipment maker Komatsu Ltd of Japan is planning to bring roughly 100 Thai employees to Japan from its manufacturing operations in Thailand for training. Komatsu's senior managing director, Toshitaka Hagiwara, claims the company remains assured of Asia's future growth potential. Adding that Komatsu wants to encourage the transfer of technology to local employees so they can make products that are competitive in worldwide markets.

Companies size up China: farm-machinery makers hope to boost sales

Japanese farm-machinery manufacturers are trying to increase sales in China in the wake of sales lagging in Japan and the Southeast Asia. However, Japanese analysts do not foresee a significant increase in demand anytime soon since the labor costs in China are not adequate to justify the purchase of many machineries, states an analyst at Jardine Fleming Securities Ltd of Tokyo, Japan.
