Bring-up-the-rear General
Article Abstract:
Singapore Telecommunications chief executive, General Lee Hsien Yang, announced talks on a possible merger between Cable and Wireless HKT and SingTel in Jan 2000, but this plan did not materialise. SingTel is government-controlled, and Lee Hsien Yang is son of the founder of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, and began his working life in the military. SingTel has performed well in terms of profits and has above average customer loyalty and satisfaction. The company's approach to deals has been conservative, and few targets remain as potential acquisitions.
