British Air expected to order airbus jets
Article Abstract:
British Airways is expected to announce an order for 100 short-haul jets valued at a total of $3.84 billion from Airbus Industrie. An initial 30 aircraft is expected to be delivered by Sep. 1999. British Airways invited bids in Feb. 1998 from both Airbus Industrie and Boeing Co. after narrowing down its choice of aircraft to Airbus' A320 family and the new models in Boeing's 737 line, both of which have a capacity of from 110 to 160 passengers. British Airways said that a more flexible financing package would be a crucial factor of the winning bid. The U.K. carrier intends to replace seven different aircraft models used by its subsidiaries in Britain, France and Germany with the Airbus jets.
