British architects bloom in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
Architecture has been encouraged in the Netherlands throughout the 20th century. The need to construct a large number of houses after the second world war led to a decline in architectural standards, but this problem has been largely overcome. Architects are now generally in agreement with planners, builders and clients about what and how to build, and architecture is seen as playing an important role in society. There are many skilled architects in the Netherlands, and a foreign architectural firm looking to establish a presence there must therefore be able to offer an extremely high quality service.

An ascetic artist's search for order
Article Abstract:
The exhibition currently being held at the Haags Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, Netherlands, marks the 50th anniversary of the artist's death. It is the largest exhibition of his work to be held in Europe, and clearly traces his development as an artist. His works give a strong sense of the physical process of painting, and have a great physical vitality. This resulted from his grounding in the observation of nature.
