Browsers beware: net nasties can be blocked out - up to a point
Article Abstract:
More and more Asian parents are hoping to aid the education of their children by purchasing computers and connecting them to the Internet. However there are problems with the Internet such as pornography, illegal gambling sites and fraudsters, although Internet blocking or Internet guardian software is available to protect young browsers from objectionable material or persons. Surf Watch can prevent searches on certain terms but it cannot protect children from chat lines where stalkers and harassers may lurk. Parents therefore need to supervise their children's use of the Internet.

Wait for it
Article Abstract:
Plans to buy a desktop computer should be delayed until early 1998 because computers currently in the shops are overpriced due to devalued Asian currencies. Businesses may decide that a new system will be of benefit, especially network computers, but firms should be sure they need the extra capability these offer before investing in one. Individual consumers in the US have realized that they do not need very powerful machines and are opting to buy more manageable systems at less than $1000.

Pocket power: communication is the key for hand-held PCs
Article Abstract:
Hand held PCs were mostly not compatible with ordinary PCs, however the new Windows CE software, which is a special revised version of the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system, will mean that they will work more like a desktop computer. Information exchange will become much easier and that ability will define successful electronic products in the Internet age. Drawbacks with hand held PCs include battery life and keyboard size.
