Brussels clears Alenia and GEC joint venture

GEC Marconi and Alenia Difesa have obtained approval from the European Commission for their 50:50 joint venture, Alenia Marconi Systems. The new company has a combined annual revenues of $1.6 billion and has headquarters in Rome, Italy, and Chelmsford, Italy. Its non-military business includes civil command, air traffic control, information systems and simulation and training products. Military offerings include missiles, command and information systems, and land-based and naval radar. The new company anticipates enlarging its sales within the first year of business.

Alenia reports strong order book

Alenia Marconi Systems has announced several contracts at the ATC Maastrict 2001 show. The company has been awarded with a $US21.8 million contract for solid-state ATCR33S primary surveillance radar, dual channel solid-state SIR-SMSSR adn CDS-2000 control working positions with 2k x 2k color displays, by the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority. The company will also supply the El Obeid, Port Sudan and Juba Airports with primary and secondary radars and El Fasher, Dongola and Malakal airports with secondary radars.
