Building behind a retained facade
Article Abstract:
Stephenson Architecture has designed the construction of a new office building behind the Victorian facade of the original Trinity Court, Manchester, England. The listed brick facade hides a modern speculative office development on seven floors with underground parking. The offices are flexible and arranged simply on two sides of an atrium. The contractor faced difficulties operating on a confined site and fire safety measures had to be planned carefully. Accomodation of 8185 sq meters is provided at a cost of 750.20 pounds sterling per sq meter.

New lease of life for Hoover factory
Article Abstract:
The Art Deco Hoover factory building on the A40 Western Avenue at Perivale, west London, England has been restored and converted into offices and a supermarket for Tesco. The listed building had been derelict since Hoover left the site in 1980 but architect, Lyons+Sleeman+Hoare have restored the 1932 facade following extensive research. The supermarket behind the main building is new but its exterior follows the Art Deco style and, with a distinctive lighting scheme emphasises the building's status as a landmark.
