PFI opportunities for Midlands companies
Article Abstract:
There is a changing attitude among UK companies towards the government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and firms are more willing to take part in the program, which uses a mixture of public and private funding for public works. Tarmac is one Midlands-based company that has led the development of PFI and is involved in several new projects, including the 80 million pounds sterling construction of a light railway system in Nottingham. It is expected that PFI will create new opportunities for private industry and could create new industrial sectors.

PFI: how is it for you?
Article Abstract:
The UK's Private Finance Initiative (PFI) was launched in 1992 and is aimed at helping the struggling construction sector by introducing private finance into public services' construction. The range of projects it covers has grown dramatically since its creation and includes private prisons, hospital services and defence contracts. Companies were initially cautious about PFI projects because of tight government requirements, but it is expected that the initiative will continue to be a successful service provider into the foreseeable future.
