Burger King cooks up total revamp

Burger King Corp is implementing top-to-bottom renovation of its 100,000 restaurants worldwide. The makeover includes a logo change and interior and operational changes such as the addition of virtual fun centers where children can play interactive computer games, the redesign of dining rooms to have a more comfortable and colorful setting and the adoption of easier-read menus. The burger chain's revamp is geared towards establishing product differentiation from its key competitors such as McDonald's.

New Microplay stores get 'urban' feel
Article Abstract:
Hip Interactive, the Toronto, Ontario-based distributor of the Microplay brand of videos and computer games, has announced plans to open 22 more stores in Nov 2000. The expansion was spurred by encouraging sales of Microplay. Six of the new stores will be built in the US, eight in Quebec and the remaining six in Ontario. These stores will be designed to look like skids in a warehouse to reflect the company's edgy, urban identity.

Fresh beer in ancient houses

As a result of a change in drinking habits, British brewers have been changing the ambiance of their pubs by moving from establishments that are crowded, uncomfortable and noisy to places which offer various menus and are artistically pleasing and spacious. Brewers are converting buildings with architectural interest such as farm buildings, theaters, banks and churches into ale houses, restaurants and hotels.
