Burger King ignites flame in Japan in bid to smoke out McDonald's lead
Article Abstract:
Burger King is planning to open restaurants in Japan amidst speculations that it will face a rough challenge with McDonald's which has been in Japan for 25 years, with 2000 outlets and sales of $2.5 bil in 1996. Burger King believes that creating strategies could be a way to challenge its competitor. These strategies include converting 36 acquired Morinaga Love burger outlets as its initial stores, designing its restaurants with a retro look, and offering flame-broiled burgers with extra vegetables.

Taste for the food sector wanes
Article Abstract:
The Philippine food sector is suffering losses in the stock markets due to the peso's decline against the US dollar. Food companies are having a hard time with production costs since 30% or more of these companies' raw materials are imported and most of these companies are posting reduced earnings. However, some companies such as RFM Corp, have not been affected since their financial situations were offset by high first half earnings.
