Business transformation in electronic commerce: a study of sectoral and regional trends
Article Abstract:
The Internet is the driving factor behind electronic commerce and its influence spans the entire world. It is estimated that one in ten of the population will have access to the Internet by 2000. Most large businesses have a web site. However, only about 5% of them conduct transactions via the Internet and the total global value of Internet transactions is only $5 billion. Only a few companies are focusing on how their business practices will have to change to make the most use of the Internet and most are using their sites merely as an extension of their current business practices.

Business transformation on the Internet
Article Abstract:
It is estimated that the number of users on the Internet will reach 550 million in 2000 and Internet sales are expected to exceed $1.2 trillion during the period. A new, collaborative research study shows most large companies make little use of the Internet other than as a publishing medium. It is recommended that companies place greater focus on the customer and exploit the Internet to gain a competitive advantage, although such a strategy may not be easy to implement.
