CHEAP EXPORT REFINANCE SPURS RESERVE MONEY GROWTH
Article Abstract:
The export refinance utilisation by commercial banks from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was at 94.7 percent in 1998-99. This boosted reserve money growth during the year. The daily average utilisation by banks went up to Rs5,304 crore in the fortnight ended December 4, 1998. This represented a 94.7 percent utilisation of refinance limits. The extensive use of export refinance follows a two percentage point reduction in the export refinance rate from nine percent to seven percent between August 6, 1998 to March 31, 1999. (uh)(vr)
