Britannia Industries had posted a net profit of Rs29.4 crore in 1997-98 against a consensus forecast of Rs37 crore. It has reported a net profit of Rs8.7 crore in the first quarter of 1998- 99. DSP Merrill Lynch has predicted that the company will give an earnings per share (EPS) of Rs13.5 in 1998-99 while ABN Amro says that it will give an EPS of Rs20.5. SG Securities Asia predicts that the company will give an EPS of Rs19 while SMIFS Securities says that it will give an EPS of Rs21.2 in 1998-99. (khr)

Jersey India (JI) of Gurgaon recorded accumulated losses of Rs14.41 crore by December 1997. It incurred a further loss of Rs6.68 crore, taking the total loss to Rs20 crore, on sales of Rs8.67 crore in 1997-98. Its paid-up capital of Rs10.60 crore was eroded. It was declared sick by the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction in December 1997. JI, an export-oriented unit, produces fabrics in lycra, cotton, polyester, rayon and their blends. (rk)
