CVIL TO REVERT TO MADURA COATS
Article Abstract:
Coats Viyella India Ltd (CVIL) proposes to revert back to its original name, Madura Coats Ltd. The plan follows a decision by Coats Viyella Plc, UK, a majority shareholder of CVIL to demerge Viyella businesses which includes fashion retail, clothing and home furnishing. CVIL will seek the approval of shareholders of the name change at its annual general meeting to be held on June 10, 1998. CVIL plans to bring its fabrics and industrial textiles business under one management. CVIL posted a net profit of Rs969.71 crore during 1997 (Rs910.26 crore in 1996). (ag)

MADURA GARMENTS TO DRESS UP CASUAL WEAR SEGMENT

Madura Garments (MG), the garment wing of the Rs970 crore Coats Viyella India Ltd (CVIL), plans to enter the casual wear market. MG's readymade shirt brands include Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly and Peter England. MG has launched Byford T shirts. They are targeted at men in the age group of 25-40 years in the urban sector. It is priced Rs199-599. Its Peter England brand, which is targeted at the mid-price shirt segment, is priced Rs345-495. MADURA COATS NET UP 29%, TO PAY 17.5%

Madura Coats has increased its net profit by 29 percent to Rs26.30 crore in 1998 against Rs20.36 crore in 1997. Its has improved turnover by 10.4 percent to Rs1065 crore from Rs965.37 crore. The company has recommended a dividend of 17.5 percent for 1998 against 2.5 percent in 1997. The improved results was mainly due to the better performance shown by the Madura Garments division. (khr)
