Candid(ate) camera
Article Abstract:
Television coverage of South Korea's 1997 presidential election campaign had tended to focus on trivia and personalities rather than issues and policies. The candidates themselves have not complained and do not wish to offend the media. Some candidates with less financial strength are benefiting from free TV exposure. The TV coverage of the 1997 election campaign is seen as preferable to past campaigns which involved very large political rallies. Kim Dae Jung, an opposition candidate, is the leading candidate in opinion polls.

Article Abstract:
US television coverage of China has tended to focus on extremes, emphasizing either the fact that the country still has a poor human rights record or the fact that entrepreneurship is now beginning to flourish. US reporters covering President Bill Clinton's visit to China tended to make sweeping assumptions. The major news networks did not devote much airtime to the visit, although it was extensively covered by the growing number of specialized cable-television news channels.
