Capital structure of Portuguese service industries: a panel data analysis

Article Abstract:

Panel data for the period 1999-2003 was analyzed, and it was found that Portuguese service industries prefer internal to external financing, not conforming to the theory of Modigliani and Miller. It was found that different sectors of the service industry activity are significant in interpreting company capital structure in Portugal. The study concludes that debt contributes to enhancing management efficiency, agency problems among shareholders and creditors having no relevance.

Advance demand and a critical analysis of revenue management

Article Abstract:

A theoretical framework of advance demand through six propositions is presented. The concept of acquisition and valuation risks is introduced by the framework and recommends that advanced demand distribution is based in the trade-off between them. The study suggests how firms can influence advanced demand through the use of the framework as a strategic tool instead of traditional revenue management tools.
