Cash flow optimization in delivery scheduling
Article Abstract:
Optimizing delivery schedule based on efficiency/cost criteria alone will yield inferior solutions. Rather, setting deliveries for a large percentage of the customers based on the present value of cash flow would be more beneficial. This was gleaned from an examination of the effective management of propane distribution over a long period from the perspective of the present value of the cash flow. A focus on the present value of cash flow is shown to bring potential financial benefits to the company but also an improved level of service owing to less frequent stockouts because of more frequent deliveries of smaller quantities.

Modeling vehicle routing with uncertain demands as a stochastic program: properties of the corresponding solution
Article Abstract:
Various differential mathematical approaches to the stochastic vehicle routing problem are evaluated. A multistage stochastic model is determined to have minimal graph representation requirements with the solution corresponding to a Hamiltonian cycle. The Markov decision process model is shown to require solving deterministic traveling salesman problems for customer subsets to determine the decision cost. This would limit the use of the technique to small level applications.
