Caveat emptor
Article Abstract:
Long-Term Capital Management (LTCM) is seeking to interest investors since those who rescued the company want their money returned. LTCM argues that it suffered from bad luck in 1998, and that its portfolio is attractive. Critics argue that the company took too many risks. Attitudes to risk have also changed as a result of the troubles of summer 1998. The original investors in LTCM have lost money, but the rescuers have made paper gains. Some of the owners wish to regain control of LTCM, while other owners wish to sell or simply retain a stake in the fund.
