Ceska Rafinerska to invest CEK 2 bil in environmental projects
Article Abstract:
Ceska rafinerska (Litvinov, Czech Republic), petroleum refining company, will invest a total of CEK 2 bil in environmental protection over the next few years. In 2002 the investment should ensure the lowering of sulfur content in petrol from the current 500 mg/kg to 150 mg/kg and in diesel fuel from 500 mg/kg to 350 mg/kg. The new quantities will meet the EU limits. When the limits are tightened to less than 10 mg/kg in 2007, CER will have to invest another CEK 4 bil to meet them. Since it came into existence in 1996, the company has invested a total of more than CEK 14 bil. Most of the sum went to the construction of new conversion units, the modernization of the existing equipment and environmental protection. In 2000 CER generated a net profit of CEK 2.5 bil on a turnover of CEK 52.6 bil.

The unit is the biggest project within CER's investment programme for 1997-2000, which is estimated to cost CEK 17 bil. Till end 2000 the company invested more than CEK 12.5 bil.
