Chairman sets modest goals for Peugeot
Article Abstract:
PSA Peugeot Citroen's new Chairman JeanMartin Folz, has declared the company will focus on cutting costs, developing new products and selling cars, instead of engaging in acquisitions and partnerships, in order to achieve growth. Folz also denied reports it is investing in Perusahaan Otomobil National Ltd. (Proton), a Malaysian car manufacturer, to expand into Southeast Asian markets. Folz is confident that Peugeot, which is expected to feel stiffer competition once the competition barrier that limits Japanese car makers from selling cars in Europe is lifted in 1999, has already taken up steps to win competition with Japanese car makers even in markets where they have the advantage of selling cars that are assembled locally.

BNL chairman leaves post, citing tensions
Article Abstract:
Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (BNL) Chairman Mario Sarcinelli has announced that he will quit his post due to conflicts with the Italian treasury concerning the company's privatization. Sarcinelli also announced that he would relinquish his decision-making and executive functions at Italy's fifth-largest bank, claiming that the treasury is shutting him out of the privatization plans. Market sources think that BNL managing director David Croff will be appointed to replace Sarcinelli because Croff had larger involvement with plans to privatize BNL.
