'Predator alert' at Czech brewery
Article Abstract:
The international reputation for quality of the famous beer brewed by the brewery Pilsner Urquell (Pilsen, Czechoslovakia) has attracted the attention of many brewers throughout the world who would like to license the brewer's product or buy the company outright. The firm's management is looking over offers which will help it expand its international market share, but will limit increases in production to 30% over present capacity in order to maintain quality. The brewery produces 155 million liters of beer annually and is small by international standards. While the management would like a foreign partner to help market their product, it intends to retain majority control of the firm.

The five-year itch
Article Abstract:
The European Community is set to enter into a new round of negotiations as its five-year budget drawn up in 1988 runs out at the end of 1992. Jacques Delors, president of EC's Commission of the European Communities, is expected to submit new budget proposals to EC members in Jan 1992. Many believe that Delors will ask for a significant increase in financing and a rise in the overall spending ceiling. Regional development, environment, industrial policy, Trans-European networks, and external affairs are expected to be included in the new spending proposals.
