Contending for the dead
Article Abstract:
The potential value of archaeological research far outweighs the need to respect the sacred beliefs of indigenous communities. Article Abstract:
Race and inequality are linked in Latin America, where Indians and descendants of slaves have tended to fare worse. Women have a longer life expectancy than men, and there are more girls in school than boys in a number of Latin American countries. More children were at school by the end of the 1980s than at the start. Some countries have been hit by misfortune, such as Haiti, which is extremely poor, while Cuba has tackled inequality.
