China relations skirt decentralization factor
Article Abstract:
Many of the issues straining US-Chinese trade relations stem from China's unsuccessful decentralization of economic power. Because Chinese authorities view decentralization as simply managing center-province relations and because of their lack of understanding of market operations, both the Chinese economy and society have no direction. This lack of central government control is most evident in Chinese firms' US copyright infringements and sale of prohibited weapons and technologies to some countries, actions the US believes were undertaken without the knowledge or permission of the Chinese government.

A serious look at politics in post-Deng China
Article Abstract:
Author Willy Lam believes Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping succeeded in preserving the rule of the Chinese Communist Party by avoiding the mistakes which led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and adopting a policy which focuses on improving living standards, rather than pursuing political pluralism. In his book 'China After Deng Xiaoping,' he expressed his optimism over China's future even if Deng should die, saying that it may even adopt a form of democracy with unique Chinese features.

Take a look at Hong Kong - and see red
Article Abstract:
A recent work of Australian author Jamie Allen has analysed the future of Hong Kong under Chinese rule as China begins to remold Hong Kong in accordance with Chinese principles. Despite assurances from Chinese leaders of acceptable administrative principles, western-style democracy in Hong Kong is not allowed. Moreover, China is trying to weaken all political parties in Hong Kong.
