China's rate increase signals shift in strategy

China's decision to raise interest rates is being seen as an indication that the government is committed to enacting market-driven policies in an effort to control inflation and calm the country's booming economy. There has been no sign, however, as to whether the government will also embrace a more flexible monetary policy, which is what the U.S. would like to see it do.

In China, the companies that moved late into the new markets have an edge over the earlier entrants due to new, loosened business regulations and an opportunity of learning from the mistakes of those who went before them. Some case studies, which substantiate this fact, are discussed.
