Clearing the bottlenecks
Article Abstract:
Ground handling company Dnata, based at Dubai International Airport, implemented in 1996 the system of monthly reports on cargo performance to all airlines using the airport's cargo terminal. Dnata was able to carry out the system using the CAMIS software, which recorded data on shipment processes and showed choke points, failures and other problems. The company was able to break down the cargo handling operation into five core processes after two years of implementing the system. The five core processses can be further broken down into 71 subprocesses that can all be measured with a computer.

Moving cargo fast
Article Abstract:
The Sharjah Airport in Sharjah, the lone emirate that is accessible the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, became the first Middle Eastern airport to be ranked in 1998 among the top 30 air cargo hubs in the world. The airport's advantage is its location and the fact that Sharjah is the owner of the Mina Khalid port on the west and the Khorfakkan port on the east. Sharjah Airport is poised to boost its landing and take-off distances with its $33-million investment programme that will involve a 300-meter runway extension.
