Closely knit Bali village weaves a spell for tourists
Article Abstract:
The Tenganan village in Bali, Indonesia has attracted tourists due to the unusual customs and practices of the natives. These includes the prohibition of natives from marrying outsiders. The Rejang dance and warrior fights are still practiced by the villagers. The musical instrument gamelan is still played at the House of Music and Gamelan Centre situated right inside the village. Natives continue to weave the rare double ikat cloth for commercial purposes.

Travel agents and hotel operators in Bali, Indonesia, have called on the government to take steps to help revive the island's tourist industry. The Balinese hospitality industry has been alarmed at the increasingly negative comments from foreign and local visitors. They plan to submit a proposal calling for measures such as stricter control of hawkers, lower fees for attractions and improved sanitation and medical facilities, among others.

Indonesia's Lombok Island touts its position as a quieter alternative to neighboring Bali
Article Abstract:
The Lombok Island in Indonesia is considered as a better tourist spot than Bali. Hotels and resorts are being constructed and various businesses are emerging due to the expected increase in tourist flow. This is further strengthened by government support in infrastructure and advertising. Bali's popularity and proximity has helped Lombok become known among travelers despite the stiff competition brought by the latter.
