Clothing and footwear in Belgium
Article Abstract:
Figures from Belgium's National Institute of Statistics and the Conseil Central de l'Economie show that volume production of clothing fell by 16.2% in 1998, against 15% drop in 1997. Production in value terms also fell by 3% to 24.7 billion Belgian francs, compared to a slight rise of 0.3% in 1997. It is thought that Belgium's domestic clothing industry, faced with growing competitive pressure, is in decline. Footwear output for 1998 fell by 11.4% to 802,000 pairs. An overview of Belgium's clothing and footwear industry is presented.
