The shrinking hordes
Article Abstract:
The population of Kazakhstan has dropped since 1989 as a resut of a drop in the birth rate and migration. Russian settlers moved into Central Asia when it was part of the Soviet Union, and some groups were also deported there. Anti-Russian feeling followed the break-up of the Soviet Union, leading to the emigration of many Russians, and economic problems have reinforced this, though anti-Russian sentiment has declined. Ethnic Germans have also moved to Germany, though some have remained and those who have done so may be more open about their nationality.
