Comments on: a comparative analysis for determining optimal price order quantity when a sale increases demand
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of a previous study concluding that a wholesaler implements suboptimal policies when using the net present value (NPV) criterion in offering a one-time only discount on price-elastic products reveals that the suggestion is based on inaccurate models and inconsistent comparisons. An analysis finds that the situation may be dependent on retailer decisions to implement optimal decisions resulting from either the NPV criterion or the average profit criterion and not the retailer's choice of criterion.

Balancing stocks, flexible recipe costs and high service level requirements in a batch process industry: a study of a small scale model
Article Abstract:
A small scale model found that in some instance, recipe flexibility can reduce costs when compared to fixed recipes, however, for other instances, only the safety stock should be used. The optimum price discrepancy between materials, for which recipe flexibility is still beneficial, was found to be 15.7%, a level that is rather big for this type of industries. The small scale model offer significant realizations for analyzing difficult and realistic situations.
