Companies size up in China
Article Abstract:
Kubota Corp., the largest manufacturer of agricultural machinery in Japan, will produce agricultural machinery in a joint venture in Jiangsu, China, by 1999. The move is prompted by the declining sales of farm-machinery in Japan and Southeast Asia. Kubota, which sees great opportunities in the Chinese market, also sets up a facility in the area to avoid the 12% import tax imposed in Japan and consequently offer lesser expensive farm equipment. The company intends to build a facility that could manufacture 1,200 combine harvesters annually and generate approximately 100 jobs.
