Competitive advantage through information technology: eight maxims for senior managers
Article Abstract:
Results of five related studies on information technology (IT) and competitive advantage by the Oxford Institute of Information Management at Templeton College are reported. The important role of non-specialist user as champion of the IT project is emphasized. The studies also reveal that opportunities for IT are often identified by user managers and not by formal planning procedures for information systems. The strategic management of IT development should therefore be the responsibility of user-managers. Senior managers should create a supportive technological environment, invest in the IT infrastructure, and foster partnership between specialists and users. Educational programs should be part of the management strategy for the organizational development task.

Andean multinational enterprises: a progress report
Article Abstract:
Venezuela and Colombia have been the main investors in Andean Multinational Enterprises (AME) since the Andean Common Market encouraged the creation of these joint ventures in 1982. AME status requires a minimum of 80% of the capital to originate from member countries. Most AME are new firms, but a few established companies have obtained foreign capital investment and qualify as an AME. Serious economic problems through out the region prevent future market changes in the region.
