Competitive shocks and industrial structure: the case of Polish manufacturing
Article Abstract:
The industrial structure of Poland has been radically altered in the years following the collapse of communist rule. This change is the result of the country's bold decision to simultaneously liberalize trade, foreign investment and prices in 1990. An analysis of the microeconomic consequences of Poland's liberalization policies shows that the competitive shock that followed helped to trigger off the subsequent transformation of its economic structure. These policies allowed the private sector to account for over half of national output and employment by 1993.

Persistence of innovative activities, sectoral patterns of innovation and international technological specialization
Article Abstract:
An analysis of persistence and heterogeneity with regards to technological innovations reveals that innovation persistence and asymmetries are important factors in determining the patterns of innovation across countries and business sectors. The study also reveals that international technological specialization is determined by the market orientation of persistent innovators and that persistence and asymmetries are strongly related in innovation persistence.
