Computing advances: photo-CDs
Article Abstract:
A number of technological developments in compact disc (CD) and computers are of interest to architects. Photo-CD, to be launched in Sep 1992, allows colour images to be stored on CDs. The images can then be viewed on an ordinary television screen. The Sony Data Discman is a portable CD player that can be used for CD databases such as checklists for site surveys. Language courses are also available on CD. The recession means there are relatively few developments in computer-aided design systems. Apple Newton is a prototype for a hand-held computer with stylus imput.

Pillow talk
Article Abstract:
The use of cushion roofing technology is set to become more widespread in the UK as designers realise the benefits of using a light, clear material which reduces the cost of a standard roof by up to half. Other benefits of inflated foil cushion roofing include its ability to resist tearing, transparency and acoustics properties which make it ideal for use in sports complexes. Foil cushion roofing is inflated by a fan to a high enough level to support heavy weights and strong winds.
