Confectionery
Article Abstract:
The retail market for confectionery in five countries was studied. The five countries are France, Germany, Italy, and UK. Data covering the period 1994-1998 was analyzed while the years 1998-2003 were used as the basis for the future outlook of the market. The results showed that the strategy of shifting to small packaging formats stimulated sales. At the same time, the rise of health concerns made sugar-free products popular. Consumption of confectionery is predicted to increase due to the continuing trend of snacking. In addition, products that are lower in fat will be developed.
