Conflicting demands of restoration
Article Abstract:
There is increasing interest in houses and other buildings that have been sympathetically restored to their original splendour, but it is important that restorers work within the requirements of the U.K.'s Building Regulations. Such rules inevitably lead to disputes, with building inspectors and environmental agencies seemingly in conflict over a building's design. It is crucial to ensure that a strategy is developed at the outset that meets the approval of all interested parties before restoration work commences, otherwise increased building costs and long delays could result.

Why it is essential to check your figures
Article Abstract:
It is vital that the architect carefully checks lettable areas in commercial work, rather than simply relying on scaling off prints. Care should be taken not to permit the client, other consultants or other members of the architectural team to make alterations to the figures, as this can have serious consequences. Careful attention should be given to the impact of any design changes, and the client must be kept fully informed at each stage.
