Many suburbs are likely to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton, since many residents now identify with urban problems. The makeup of Chicago, IL, and Detroit, MI, shows that suburbs are not homogeneous and will not vote similarly.

Pres Bush managed to gain the majority of votes from conservative Democrats in the suburban areas of Macomb County and Chicago, IL. Voters were motivated mainly by an anxiety about higher taxes and liberalism.
