Confusion in Russia
Article Abstract:
President Boris Yeltsin has sacked the Russian government including prime minister, Yevgeny Primakov, who had offered Russia some stability. There is a danger of bloodshed and of the disappearance of a fragile democracy in Russia. Yeltsin himself should have resigned and he is unable to run Russia. the International Monetary Fund (IMF) should not provide aid in exchange for Russia cooperating over the conflict in Yugoslavia, though Russia should not be ignored, and could provide help in seeking a peaceful solution to the conflict.

When Boris banged the table
Article Abstract:
Yeltsin's dissolution of his government appears incomprehensible, as does his promotion of a 35-year-old junior minister as acting Prime Minister. Yeltsin claims he fired Chernomyrdin so the latter could concentrate on year 2000 elections. Potential consequences of the move are analyzed.
