Article Abstract:

Robert Adam stressed the need to conserve buildings and places at a recent planning conference on conservation but argued that one needs to examine the assumptions that underlie the culture of conservation and planning. He suggested that conservation needs to be freed from the sterility of authenticity and isolation of history.
