The ESTEREL language
Article Abstract:
The ESTEREL reactive model of synchronous parallel systems is a member of a new family of synchronous languages for reactive programming. The basic ESTEREL model is the reactive model in which communicating systems that continuously interact with their environment are considered. Reactive systems react to an input event by producing an output event. The hypothesis behind the language, called perfect synchrony hypothesis, states that reactions and output occur simultaneously with input. Formal ESTEREL semantics are described to show how programs can be compiled into finite state sequential machines for efficient execution. ESTEREL applications are also discussed.

Article Abstract:
Obsesity is a problem in many societies where there is an abunadance of food, and this could be a natural phenomena since the body may be programmed to eat more when more is available. Leptin is a hormone that tends to suppress hunger after a meal, and rats which have a restricted diet have been found to produce more leptin than those with more food available. This could be because rats accustomed to scarcity may be programmed not to continue to forage since little can be achieved if food is unavailable. Rats with access to abundant food may be programmed to lay down fat while they can.

Article Abstract:
Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) suppress the synthesis of prostaglandin to act as critical mediators of immune responses, pain and fever. NSAIDs enable the cell death (apoptosis) of colonial epithelial cells to proceed at a normal rate and prevent carcinoma. Cyclooxegenases (COXs) which catalyze the preparation of prostaglandins and thromboxanes lead to carcinoma. High levels of COX-2, observed after carcinoma formation, probably prevent apoptosis of cells in the early stages of epithelial transformation.
