Vestige of empire
Article Abstract:
The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has traditionally handled disputes relating to affairs in the colonies. The UK now has very few colonies, so it is rare for an appeal to come from a colony. However, the Judicial Committee still handles appeals from the courts of the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. It can only hear disputes about questions of law. It may take on considerable importance in the future as a result of its experience in interpreting the written constitutions of independent Commonwealth countries.
