Consumer surplus vs. welfare standard in a political economy model of merger control

The political economy environment in which an antitrust agency performs is examined to identify the conditions that make consumer surplus standard give greater welfare than welfare standard. Merger control, antitrust policy, etc. are also discussed.

Leniency programs and cartel prosecution

Leniency programs are designed to give reduced fines to companies that release information to the Antitrust Authority. Such programs help enforcement but they also might increase collusion. Research follows on these topics.
