Correos abonara incentivos a sus empleados por cumplimiento de objetivos
Article Abstract:
The Spanish postal service Correos will introduce an incentive programme involving extra wages based on the achievement of individual employee objectives. The board is negotiating with labour unions regarding implementation of such change, which aims at making the service more competitive. The Ministry of Finance has agreed on paying for the expenses. Correos, which legally is run differently from other public services since it became a public business body, is involved in a structural transformation to operate like the private sector. Correos will gain independence by the new postal law to be approved within the next weeks.

Iberia anula vuelos al rechazar los pilotos trabajar mas horas

Spanish airline Iberia claims it will have to cancel some of the flights scheduled for the months of July and August, 1998, because of the break-down in negotiations with pilots who are refusing to work more hours than those established in the collective agreement. Around 600 flight hours will have to be cancelled in July and 1,400 in August, although the airline claims passengers will not be affected, since they will either be transferred to other flights with similar schedules or to other airlines altogether.

To offset the possible import of lower priced products from the Asian countries, Spanish-based TV picture tube manufacturer, Miniwatt, a subsidiary of Philips, wants to increase production at its plant in Barcelona, in order to reduce cathode tube prices by 10%. The aim is to add a fourth shift at the plant, although worker representatives are opposed to the move, involving subcontracting of component production workers through outside companies.
