Several prominent Conservative party rivals to Major have been given powerful ministerial posts, including Michael Heseltine at the Trade and Industry Dept.

UK Prime Minister John Major has waged a poor campaign in his first election as Conservative Party leader. However, pre-election polling suggests that the Labour Party stands little chance of winning a parliamentary majority, since many disaffected Tory voters are supporting the Liberal Democrats.

Article Abstract:
It appears that Prime Minister John Major's Conservative Party has won a small majority in the 1992 UK general election. Major's campaign cannot be seen to have been entirely effective, since his party will have lost its comfortable parliamentary majority.
